He’s got the whole world in his hands!

Our Geographers this afternoon, were learning about the fact that Hull is a port and how our location beside the river Humber allows us to bring goods in via the North Sea from Europe and even across the world! We were surprised at how the river Humber connects us to so many countries!

Not Now, Bernard!

To help use learn how to record and punctuate dialogue in our English lessons, we have chosen the book ‘Not Now, Bernard!’

In this repetitive book, poor Bernard get ignored by his parents and they don’t even realise when he has been eaten by a monster! This book has created opportunities for great discussion about how we would feel if we were poor Bernard. We learnt the story with the help of signifiers and then created a story map using simple symbols. This map will then help us when we later innovate and write our own version of this story.

George loved retelling this story!

Team Work Makes the Dream Work!

When we had to combine phonic groups this morning, it was so lovely to see peer to peer coaching in our class. The comments between the children were lovely and we were really proud of their kind and grown up approach to helping others!

National Day of Spain

Today we enjoyed celebrating the National Day of Spain by learning a Spanish number song and playing games to learn colour names in Spanish!

Reading Progress

We are feeling very proud of ourselves for the amazing progress that we are making in reading during our Read Write Inc lessons. Our confidence is growing and we are enjoying being able to be the teacher to help our partner with their reading too.

PE Cross Country Running

Today, our school field was turned into a Cross Country Track! All of the school took part in this annual event and we are really proud of the HUB children for their fantastic participation, team spirit and amazing cheering of their friendsto create a wonderful, sporting atmosphere!

Take a look at these brilliant action shots captured by our resident Photographer – Raphael!

Art – Colour Mixing Skills

This week, we were learning how to mix tones of a colour by adding different amounts of white paint. We are taking great care to hold the paint brush correctly and to control the strokes to avoid any ‘white bits’. We loved chatting about the tones that we had made and used them to practice in our sketch books before painting out final pieces that will be displayed in the school gallery!

English – Non Chronological Reports

We are going to write a non-chronological report about Hull Fair (which we are very excited about visiting!) so we needed to find out which features of writing a report has. We explored this Hibernation report as we have enjoyed reading ‘Don’t Hog The Hedge’ this week as our end of the day story, all around the theme of hibernation.  We discussed and labelled the features with post it notes and will use this as a tool to help us improve our individual writing next week.

Snails and More!

Hold the Press!!

Worm day is over! George has found a minute snail, let the exploration of these slimy, gastropods commence 🙂

Art – Viewing Windows

As Artists, we have been using viewing windows to help us focus our attention on specific details. We were looking at the mighty suspension bridge, our very local Humber Bridge.
