Summer Term wc 23rd April

We went on an adventure to Tropical World in Leeds this week to experience what is might be like in a Jungle as part of our new topic this term.

We were wowed by the butterflies, charmed by the meercats and loved relaxing and watching the fish. Although it was rather warm, we don’t think that we would like to live somewhere that hot – not without a paddling pool!

Before our session at Tropical World, we explored the enormous (and very hilly!) Roundhey Park and had our lunch in the sunshine.

A fantastic day with a few snoozy-suzies on the journey home!

Y6 Netball Team

Our Netball superstars played amazingly during our West Hull league games this week! The team work, skills and determination was absolutely amazing. The games were hosted at Sirius, supported by the Y8 girls who gave up their time umpire the match. We played Bricknell and two Eastfield teams (plus a friendly at the end of the session) so went home happy but exhausted! We still have Adelaide to play and are looking forward to this match. We couldn’t have been more proud! Well done team 🙂

Spring Term 31st March

We wanted to build a sandpit to play in so we converted one of the planters for all of the Nest and HUB children to enjoy! We used our great team work skills to dig, carry and create a fun zone within the HUb garden.

Great digging Daryl and DJ!

George doing a great job of being he foreman and overseeing the work!

Finally, enjoying the fruits of our labour!

Camping skills 🙂

Great team work from HUB2 to put up our new tent 🙂

We loved the way Blake showed interest in our activity and asked us what we were doing, he loved coming to join the gardening crew and planting out seeds courtesy of the Lidl Little Growers scheme.

We are so glad that the sun has come out so our seeds can thrive!

As a reward for having such lovely manners and being great friends, these children enjoyed being the Golden Table super stars at lunch.

East Park 26th March

A wonderful day at East Park, the sun was shining and there were sooooo many activities for us to enjoy!

Socialising in the play area…

Working out in the fresh air…

Feeding the geese by the lake…..

Shopping skills to buy delicious ice creams …

Being creative in the musical park…

Week Commencing 18th November

With the temperature dropping this week, we enjoyed some indoor activities at the MKM stadium. Working to beat our time each week in clap catch, jump overs and skips in a minute we use the timer and the challenge bags to improve on our previous score. DJ, George and Daryl were feeling very creative this week, creating fantastic, eye catching comic strips of their favourite characters. The boys showed great determination and concentrated on their wonderful work for such a long time!

On Wednesday, we travelled to Cineworld to participate in the Into Film Festival 2024. We watched a lovely animation called Wild Robot alongside several other schools. The story is based on the book of the same name and we took a real shine to the animal characters within this lovely tale.

On Friday we made Bird feeders for our Outdoor classroom, to feed the wildlife during this cold time when we would rather be indoors!

Week Commencing 11th November

On Monday afternoon at the MKM stadium, we worked as a team to complete group challenges. We enjoyed being hands on and our balancing skills were amazing when we were playing giant Jenga! We kept it going until it was taller than us!

On Tuesday, ahead of WORLD KINDNESS DAY tomorrow, Dj demonstrated his thoughtfulness and kindness towards his class mates. He used his spare lego figures at home to customise a Spiderman for George and a joker character for Daryl. The boys were delighted and extremely grateful!

As part of the Into Film festival, we

On Thursday we enjoyed a PE lesson with Will from the tigers trust. This week Will was joined by members of the FA and they told us that they were really impressed with the SEN friendly provision that the Tiger Trust deliver for our lucky HUB students.

Our LEGO king, Harvey, enjoyed building on a much larger scale this week as the boys worked together to create a den.

.

We decorated our own odd socks this week as part of our PSHE lessons. We talked about kindness, differences and what it takes to be a good friend to all people.

Week Beginning 4th November

Monday

We ventured to the MKM stadium, home of Hull City Football team and Hull FC rugby team, to take part in our first ‘Run with It’ project session! We were lucky enough to have our very own stadium tour as we took part in some hands on Maths and fact finding! They also let us into some stadium secrets, such as in the Away teams changing room, the shower is designed to flood, in winter they turn off the heat but in the summer they turn it up! Sneaky!

Tuesday

Along with several other local schools, we went to Costello Stadium to take part in the amazing Panathlon Challenge! We worked as a team to score points and showed great sports-personship by cheering each other on! We took part in a wide range of fun activities and had a wonderful morning, supported by Year 9 Sirius Sports Leaders and the Hull Active Schools team. The icing on the cake was that after all of that fun, when the results were announced, we were the winners! We proudly accepted a gold medal each as well as a beautiful trophy and certificate to proudly display at school.

Wednesday

Very Happy 11th Birthday to Dylan!!!

Ganton Fair Trade Breakfast

This week’s gold book student is XXX for a renewed and fantastic attitude towards his learning, well done!

Autumn Week 6 – 14th October 2024

As Scientists, we have been learning about a Balanced diet, this week we examined and compared the diets of a wide range of animals. We then picked a couple of more unusual animals and used the internet to research what their diet consisted of. We learned that some animals, like the mighty Lion, only eat other animals so are carnivores, some such as giraffes, eat plants so are herbivores and others such as birds are omnivores as they eat both plants and other animals! What diet does your pet have?

As Historians, we used pictoral sources of evidence to explore the growth of the railway. We had a really good discussion about how this made Britain better and helped us to travel, trade and grow.

For this week’s Community Visit, we went to the Milk Well in Willerby. We watched the farmer feeding the calves, played in the toy tractor and had a go at milking a model cow. But the best part by far, was that we got to make and enjoy our very own milkshakes. We even took an extra one home for our families to enjoy! We worked up an appetite by playing our favourite games in the park opposite, enjoying socialising with out classmates.

Even Spiderman enjoyed a strawberry milkshake!

Congratulations to  Dylan  for being this week’s Gold Book Student! The kindness which he shows towards his fellow peers is outstanding, he is a wonderful role model with a studious attitude towards learning. Another Christopher Pickering Super Star!

Autumn Week 4 – 30th September 2024

Monday

It was the second groups turn to cook this afternoon. We enjoyed working with our visitor Miss Blackie, to de-skin, peel and chop the tomatoes to make a lovely fresh salsa!

Wednesday

We travelled to the High Street in Hull’s old town to visit the Streetlife Museum. We have been learning about the history of locomotives and were able to talk about the ways that people travelled and transported things in the past.

Thursday

We enjoyed the sunshine outside to develop our basketball dribbling and passing skills today. Then we had fun, playing sporting games with Will from the Tigers Trust!

Friday

Some pupils chose these superhero masks from the reward box, which led to lots of fun, creative play! What would your super-power be? We are working hard in our lessons and following the schools golden rules to earn dojos. Once we have earned 20, we can redeem them for a prize 🙂 We thought the quiff really suited Tyler!

Autumn Week 3 – 23rd September 2024

Tuesday

We enjoyed cooking outside today as the sun shone down on us. We learned how to skin tomatoes by preparing them in hot water before we chopped them to make a delicious salsa bruschetta recipe.

Wednesday

Today, we took part in the Great British Beach clean at Hessle Foreshore.

We were lucky to spot and be able to chat to the West Yorkshire Fire and rescue service who were carrying out training to prepare for flooding.

Thursday

We enjoyed developing our teamwork and ball controll skills with The Tigers Trust team in PE! Congratulations Tyler for winning not one but two certificates for Respect  a very important sporting and school value 🙂 Well done!

Friday

Our Gold Book super star this week is Lucy. She earned this certificate as she worked hard to publish her story, ‘Lemon baby’ in Word on a Chromebook and edited it to improve. 🙂
