This term, Year 5 have been exploring and discussing the situations whereupon the need for emergency aid would be required.

We discussed the procedure for helping a casualty whilst waiting for the emergency services to arrive after calling 999. The children understood the need to keep calm so as to reassure the casualty: and to remain level headed both whilst assessing and controlling the situation whilst medical help arrives.

In order to give basic first aid, we then practiced putting our partners into the recovery position and understand that this should only be done if a casualty is breathing and that moving them would not cause any further injury.
