Jigsaw Jack has been helping Year 1 find out how to keep clean and healthy this week.
We started our lesson by telling Jigsaw Jack how germs spread. We decided there are germs when things are dirty and that it is important to keep things clean. In school, we keep our hands clean through the day by washing them and using sanitiser. The cleaners help keep our classroom clean by washing the tables and doors.
Adults at home keep things clean and healthy by washing surfaces and clothes and making sure we stay clean.
We looked at pictures of things we have in our houses that we use to keep us clean and healthy.
Not everything that adults use at home are safe. Some things we use to clean can make us ill.
We sorted lots of items into which room we might use them in.

We decided that not all things used in a home to keep things clean are safe for us to use.
We think soap and toothpaste is safe for us but we shouldn’t be touching bleach or toilet cleaner. We found out some of the things our adults use to clean contain chemicals which can be dangerous for us to use.
