Year 2 have been learning about the events of the Moon Landing in History today. They used newspaper articles to learn about what happened.

Over the past few days, the children from Years 1-6 have been taking part in electing their new school councillors. The children who were interested in being a school councillor wrote their names down on our sign up sheets then presented a speech to their year group, stating why they would make a super school councillor. The children then voted for the two children they would like to represent their year group at school council meetings.
Our new school councillors are:
Year 1: William O and Dixie-Lee J
Year 2: Hollie J and Grace A-M
Year 3: Rebecca R and Billy B
Year 4: Bailey F and Sophia G
Year 5: Riley Y and Lola F
Year 6: Jenson F, Ella C, Chloe C, Freddie F, Jay H, Gracie E, Phoebe M and Jamie C
The Year 6’s will also be house captains.
In Year 1 we are learning all about Purple Mash and are learning how to log into it and how to navigate around the site.

It is important to keep your password safe so nobody else can pretend to be you.

We keep our password safe so nobody else can use it.

I keep my password safe because it’s my work and I don’t want anybody else to do it.
Some of us have usernames and passwords at home that we need to get onto games too, so in class we discussed why logging onto something is important to keep our information and details safe.
In PSHE this week we looked at our rights and responsibilities as a member of the class. First we greeted everyone using a ball that we rolled across the floor saying each other’s names. This made us feel special and welcome!

We then said hi to Jigsaw Jack who wanted to find out how the children like to learn. They started with the sentence ‘I like learning when…’. A lot of the children mentioned our golden rules.
“When it is quiet and I can concentrate” “When my friends are kind”
We then discussed 6 photographs and decided whether they showed happy or sad learning.
Finally, we re-capped our school’s golden rules and using our handprints agreed to try our best to follow them at all times!
Year 1 really enjoyed their first PSHE lesson meeting Jigsaw Jack!
We started off with a lovely game called ‘pass the smile’. We discussed how this made us feel happy, loved and excited! We then talked about how we felt about coming back to school in a new year group with new teachers. We shared all sorts of worries and emotions! To help us understand the different emotions we were feeling we read ‘The colour monster’.

The children were then introduced to our wall of colour monsters and together we read all the adjectives used to describe the different emotions! We had fun finding our faces and moving them to match how we feel. The children are looking forward to doing this everyday! Well done Year 1, you have settled in really well to the new rules and routines!

This morning in Y2 we have been comparing numbers. We revisited the work we did in Y1 by identifying tens and ones and practised counting in 10’s, 2’s and 5’s.
We used a variety of manipulatives to make numbers and compare them using mathematical vocabulary such as greater than and less than. We used stem sentences to explain what we found – 23 is less than 67. We applied our understanding of < > and = to compare numbers too.
We solved reasoned and solved problems thinking about comparison of numbers ! A great maths lesson!
.

This morning in Y2, we thought about things we find in the night sky. We thought of things like the moon, stars and clouds. We thought of adjectives to describe the things we could see and wrote sentences about them.
Grace wrote – The shimmering, bright moon moves slowly across the night sky.
We worked as a group to create collective poems about The Night Sky.
We were pleased with the outcome and performed them to the rest of the class.
In Year 2 our Design and Technology unit this term has been puppets. First of all we investigated different puppets. Then we learned how to sew a simple stitch.
After that, we designed our own puppet. We then used what we had learned to make our own puppets!
We were happy with the end results!
