Children’s Mental Health Week

With the theme for this year’s Children’s Mental Health Week being Express Yourself, Year 3 have been creating origami dogs, making squiggles and seeing what they could see in them, and enjoying mindful colouring.  These activities demonstrated that although all of our work was different, it was equally special.

Y3 working hard on there mindfulness.

Year 5 PSHE and Child Mental Health Week

Throughout the week, the Year 5 children – both at home and at school – have been completing a range of PSHE activities.

The children started the week by thinking about their dreams and goals for their futures and then completed dream clouds on which they wrote about what they would like their lives to be lie when they are older.

The children then thought about what their dream job would be. They researched their jobs and came up with three steps they would need to take in order to achieve their dream career.

Next, the children discussed different professions and their salaries. We talked about which professions earned the most money and whether we thought other professions should earn more money because of their contributions to society. Look at these incredible written answers from Cody and Oliver.

Finally, the children completed various activities for Child Mental Health Week. Some children sent in images of themselves expressing themselves in different ways and doing things that they enjoy and some children created jars containing things that they are looking forward to.

Ruby L enjoys colouring and does this to expresses herself .

Ella C enjoys doing anything related to Harry Potter, whether it is reading the books, watching the films or playing Harry Potter board games.

Chloe C, Gracie OE, Gracie J and Oliver E have plenty to look forward to!

PSHE Year 6

As part of Mental Health Week Year 6 have been expressing their thoughts and feelings through art.

In an ideal world, emotions create feelings that flow naturally. But often they get dammed up. Whatever you’re feeling these days, it can be a lot to carry. Expressing emotion through art is an incredible way to release those feelings before they get too deep and begin to create other problems.

Each child has produced a piece of work which reflects their uniqueness and individuality.

We think you will agree we have some very talented children in Year 6 !!!

Bouncing Fun

We have had so much fun on the trampoline outside.

We all jumped as high as we could .

We then counted to our special number 8.

The children had lots of turn taking and we all made sure we were all safe.

As well as helping with our physical development it made us so happy

Looking after our minds!

Year 1 had some great discussions on how important it is to look after our minds as well as our bodies. We thought about things that make us happy such as exercise, yummy food and drawing. We listened to Kate Middleton inspire us to keep doing things that make us happy to keep our minds healthy during these confusing times.

We then did a fantastic emotions workshop called ‘The emotion express’ by Mind Matters for Education. We then talked about these emotions relating to how we feel at the minute. It was a lot of fun!

Children’s Mental Health Week – Y4

Our home-learners and in-school students have really taken onboard the messages from mental health awareness week. We have enjoyed expressing ourselves and taking time to consider what makes us happy, especially during these unusual times.

Y4 had fun with the 1-minute-doodle-challenge, turning a squiggle into a picture.

They loved creating Origami dogs in various sizes and with different types of paper. Some pupils, such as Izzy, have gone on to learn more origami in their own time and so she is teaching us how to make a heart this afternoon! (Just in time for valentines day:) )

We thought about what makes us happy at play. We are a sporty lot! You’ll find us refining our rugby skills or playing football. Some of us just like to hang with our friends and play imaginative games.

At home and in school, we  linked our English work to Children’s mental health week and have been making entries in an emotions journal. We found the structure was really helpful and that the pupils were able to really drill down to their feelings and express themselves rather than just generally considering ‘How are you?’

PE with Alex from the Tigers Trust, gives us the chance to express ourselves and work with our classmates, physically and mentally, towards a common goal. And of course, the chance to HAVE FUN!

Child Mental Health Awareness Week in Year 2

We have done lots of “wake up” morning exercises, regular calming breathing sessions and some meditation.

We have also been talking about our feelings and how we can make ourselves feel better if we are experiences negative feelings.

Lots of our children liked to dance, sing, draw or have cuddles to make themselves feel better. We tried to make sure everybody felt happy by singing “If you’re happy and you know it clap your hands!”

Mental Health Week in Year 1

We had so much fun learning about how important it is to look after our minds as much as our bodies. We loved the emotions workshop by ‘mind matters for education’ and Kate Middleton’s talk about how keep doing things we love. #year1
