We are taking part in ‘Challenge Hull’ which is a weekly challenge set by Hull City of Culture. Every week our City of Culture Ambassadors will set the school the new challenge. This week’s theme was ‘The Hull Hoedown’.
Fantastic moves Y2!
To celebrate the launch of Hull City of Culture 2017 and our new Spring Topic ‘Made in Hull’, each year group created their own wooden letter. Each letter had to represent a certain aspect of Hull culture. The letter have the following themes:

A- Needler’s Sweets- Ganton
D- Hull Fair – Year 1
E- Famous People – Year 3
I- Hull Rovers – FS
N- Hull Docks – Year 4
H- Hull FC – Year 6
U- Hessle Foreshore- iPass
L- Landmarks- Year 5

During our Made in Hull topic each phase will be learning about a piece of Hull history. FS and KS1 will be learning about Hull’s Polar explorers, Y34 will be learning about what life was like during Hull in the Blitz and Y56 will be learning about Hull’s Docks. It’s going to be an exciting term!
The children in year 3/4 have been using classification keys to organise a variety of different objects. They began by using the keys to sort Liquorice Allsorts then proceeded to sort a variety of leaves according to their observable properties.
World Book Day is on Thursday 2nd March 2017. Dress up as your favourite character!
Year 3 have been getting creative and have enjoyed making their own mini air-raid shelters! We have been learning lots about WW2 and how air-raid shelters were a vital part in ensuring people were safe during the Hull Blitz. We even have our own air-raid shelter in the classroom to try and help us understand what it must have been like to use one!

Miss Stainton’s class enjoyed working in pairs to research important historical battles which involved England. They have been doing lots of comparison work within topic lessons exploring the differences between WW2 and battles which happened a long time ago. They are becoming really confident using search engines effectively on the iPads to help them learn more about history and especially enjoy working in our immersive WW2 themed pod! Great work!
