This half term we are very please to have Callum from Hull FC coming in to deliver rugby coaching to staff and children in Y6. So far the sessions have been going very well and children are really enjoying themselves. We hope this extra focus pays off in the upcoming competitions!
The year 6 children were given another scientific task yesterday – to launch rockets for Miss Stainton’s Mexican party!
We used what we already knew about chemical reactions and mixed an acid and a base to create carbon dioxide. Using a cork, this built up pressure inside our rockets and the results were amazing! Some of our rockets went as high as the school building!
Fantastic work.
To end our unit on Sense Poetry, Year 2 performed for the rest of the of the school in assembly on Wednesday.
They performed a poem learned by heart with signifiers. Then the children read aloud their popcorn poems.
It was fantastic!
Miss Stainton’s class were given a tricky question today – How could they inflate balloons using only vinegar, baking soda and a water bottle?
They worked within groups to create their own plans and hypothesis. They then put these to the test to see if they worked. The groups were very successful and used their knowledge to create a chemical reaction which produced a gas to inflate the balloons! Well done!
Miss Stainton’s craft club have had lots of fun over the past few weeks. So far we have enjoyed making slime, friendship bracelets, autumn finger painting pieces, and oobleck! Things have been getting messy but we have enjoyed every minute!

Following our trip to Hull Fair last week, Miss Stainton’s class created detailed instructions on how to make a ‘fair inspired’ treat – chocolate apples!
We wrote up our instructions remembering to include lots of time adverbs and imperative verbs. We then voted for our favourite toppings as a class.
We had lots of fun making them but even more fun eating them! Yummy!
This week Year 2 have been investigating what happens to our heart when we exercise. We did a variety of different exercises and the monitored what happened to our heart rate.
We found out that our heart beat gets faster when we exercise.
Year 2 are learning about sense poetry. First we learned a poem using signifiers.
Then we looked at the features of a sense poem.
On Thursday we used our senses to describe popcorn and then wrote our own poems!
Next week we will be performing our poems!
Today was our first reading club in Year 2. We had lots of fun playing on Teach Your Monster to Read. We can’t wait for next Friday lunchtime!
Miss Stainton’s class were presented with the task of planning a luxury holiday for a family of 4 to Mexico for one week and loved using their team work to plan their finances!
They had to choose which hotel to stay in, which food and drink package to purchase, what day trips to pay for, along with lots of other important holiday fun to organise!
Fantastic team work and maths skills were demonstrated by all, if only we could actually experience our holidays in reality!
