“There’s a rang-tan in my bedroom and I don’t know what to do!”
This week, Y4 have had a fantastic time looking at performance poetry. We started by watching and appraising different performances. We then watched Michael Rosen’s top tips for poetry performance.
Then, we looked at the Green Peace advert featuring the poem “There’s a rang-tan in my bedroom”. This is a moving and very relevant piece as it is themed around deforestation, more specifically destruction for the palm oil industry so links very well with our topic this term. Here’s the original:
We then practiced this poem, considering intonation, pace and expression. Here are some of the results!
Hamdi, Riley, Oliver and Alex.
Esme, Summer and Eva
Grace, Alisha, Maycie and Evie
We then innovated the poem, changing elements so that that there was a rang-tan in our classroom!
After the chicks went back to ‘Grandad Chicken’ on the farm, I didn’t think that we could beat the experience for the children. However, our tadpoles are just as popular and the children have become experts on the lifecycle of frogs! Great work everyone.
To help us with our Newspaper reports, Year 3 took on the roles of interviewer and witness to gather some quotes for our newspaper articles. The children used their knowledge of the eruption of Mount Vesuvius, in Pompeii, to get into character and answer questions about the events of that day.
Year 2 have been looking at the poem ‘I Wish I Was a Pirate’ by Tony Bradman. We learned signifiers for the poem and the performed our poem to the rest class.
We are now going to write our own pirate poems based on Bradman’s poem.
Year 1 worked fantastically together in English. We are working towards writing a sense poem for our new theme all about the seaside. We closed our eyes and listened to real life sounds of what we would hear at the seaside. They said it felt like they were there! The children came up with some brilliant language ‘howling wind’, ‘chatting seagulls’ and ‘crisp golden sand’. We worked through each sense and made sure we used adjectives to make our language more interesting.
I can’t wait to see their final poems using their brilliant descriptions. Well done Year 1!
