Y4 Artists

This week Y4 have LOVED being creative with clay!

Inspired by the Yorkshire based Sculptor Steve Winterburn and his amazing animal sculptures! Check him out

We loved the feel of the clay between our hands.

We used the tools to create the texture of fur.

We looked closely at shape to craft our clay.

Getting creative!

Some of the children in F2 have been coming to After-School Art Club.  All of them have taken part in some great observational drawings and then a really great fun session of ‘speed painting’.  Tonight’s session revealed an amazing artist though, whose painting skills (including composition and observations of shapes) really shone through!  See what you think of this masterpiece…

Y4 Artists

This week, Year 4 have been inspired by the sculptor Steve Winterburn and his animal sculptures. We learned how to use shading to create depth and carefully observed animal head images applying shading techniques with wonderful results.

Ava’s impressive observational and shading skills!

Great sketching Jay and Evie F

Mrs H is really impressed with Logan’s progress!

Harley and Drake, enjoying being amazing artists this afternoon.

Year 6 Artwork

Year 6 have been studying pieces of artwork created by ‘Soraya French’, such as this painting of a shanty town:

Soraya French, SHANTY TOWN WOMEN | Exhibition Artwork

We observed how she used a ‘layering’ technique and preferred to work in a less-structured, messy style. Using acrylic paints, we then created our own paintings inspired by her works of art.

We weren’t afraid to use bold colours and different equipment to apply the acrylic paint, such as spatulas and card, just like Soraya does!

Y4 Heb Artists

Following from Mr Morgan’s blog about our Art lesson this week, here are some of the lovely results from Mrs Hebden’s children.

Y4 Wire Sculptures

After a few weeks working in the 2D with drawing and painting, Y4 were very excited to be working in three dimensions this week. After looking closely at leaves previously, children were tasked with making different leaf sculptures from aluminium mesh.

This was a satisfying material to work with and was very easy to cut and shape into different forms. The finished pieces were mounted to mimic specimens in a museum or scientific collection and look fantastic in our pod!

Maycie-Leigh and Eva working on their sculptures – we may have had a few pricked fingers!

Lifecycles…

After the chicks went back to ‘Grandad Chicken’ on the farm, I didn’t think that we could beat the experience for the children.  However, our tadpoles are just as popular and the children have become experts on the lifecycle of frogs!  Great work everyone.

Colour tints, observational drawing and painting

Y4’s art journey continues this week by combining a few skills we have been practicing. Children have been working on there observational skills and have tried different media like pencil and charcoal. They have also used watercolour paints to create different tints of green. They began by mixing shades, tones and tints of green to paint the leaves that they had drawn, applying this colour mixing knowledge, whilst carefully observing the colours within the subject.

Keep up the hard work children, you’re doing great!

Paigton and Lily used their colour tinting skills to paint these leaves.
