Thank You Your Majesty

The children in Year 6 have spent the day learning all about Queen Elizabeth II. We have completed lots of different activities and have learned all about her fantastic achievements and key moments in her life.

Did you know?

The Queen did not have to have a passport to travel or a license to drive a car.

The Queen had 2 birthdays – her actual birthday and her official birthday

The Queen owned her first house at age 6 – a straw thatched cottage in the grounds of the Windsor Royal Lodge.

Year 6 Project Evolve – Respecting boundaries online

Year 6 explored what the key words “consequences”, “respect” and “boundaries” mean.

We discussed a range of scenarios that made us consider if boundaries had been respected and what the consequences would be of that – positive or negative.

We then wrote our own online respect charters listing how we can show self-respect and protect ourselves online and how we can also respect others.

Year 6 Recorders

Year 6 have been learning Silent Night on the recorder in their music lessons this half term!

We revisited the notes we learned in Year 5 and learned how to play some new ones including Low C, High C and F#. We built on our existing knowledge of how to read music by looking at how time signatures affect how music is played.

We have enjoyed being musicians and performing what we have learned.

Year 6 Gymnastics

Year 6 have recently started their gymnastics block in P.E. This week, we got the apparatus out and worked in pairs to create a sequence of movements. We have been looking specifically at ‘matching’ movements this week.

Each pair was challenged to produce a sequence of matching movements that incorporated elements of both unison (performing the same movement at the same time) and canon (performing the same movement one at a time).

Can you spot these elements in the videos below?

We have been considering what makes “excellent gymnastics”:

  • Gymnasts should demonstrate extension in their fingers and toes when they are moving or balancing.
  • Gymnasts should move silently with control.

Next week, we will be working on the following element of excellent gymnastics as we found this tricky this week:

  • Gymnasts should hold their balances still for at least four seconds.

Year 6 Maya Tiles

In Year 6, we have been learning about how the Maya would have used natural resources to create their artwork. We have been working with clay to create Maya relief tiles featuring hieroglyphic designs.
