This week in music, the children were able to produce their first sounds using the clarinet. Lots of children found this hard to start off with and couldn’t get their mouths in the correct configuration to produce a sound on the reed. Through lots of determination the whole class were proud to be able to make their first sounds.

Today, year 5 were lucky enough to have a visit from members of the Bahai faith who explained how they expressed their faith. The children were able to understand and explore the Bahai faith. They asked excellent questions about the faith and were wowed with the religious beliefs that they held (equality and unity). The children really enjoyed looking at the different places of worship where people of the Bahai faith have services.

This week in music Mrs Hall introduced the year 5’s to a variety woodwind instruments of which they will be playing the clarinet over the course of the year. They couldn’t believe how many instruments there were. They particularly liked the saxophone and the Bassoon! Year 5 also looked at the rhythm and pulse of different songs.



This week the year 5’s have been looking at describing strategies for keeping personal information private and also explaining what a weak and a strong password is whilst knowing how to create a strong password.
They were excellent detectives in the lesson and were able to retrieve a fake pupils details from social media posts that she had given. They were able to suggest what strategies she used to protect her information and where she went wrong with advice what she could do next time.



In our new Design and Technology unit the children have been looking at creating a variety of pulley systems. They were introduced to fixed pulleys and tried to use the equipment to build a crate which could be moved by a fixed pulley (such as an elevator).
In today’s lesson the children looked at different pilgrimages that occur throughout differing faiths. The children were able to compare the places and activities that occur and were able to explain how they were similar and different. Fatima was able to explain to the rest of the class about her pilgrimage to Mecca for the Islamic celebration Hajj. The children really enjoyed looking at similarities between Hajj and the Jewish pilgrimage to the Western Wall in Jerusalem.
In today’s assembly the children were welcomed by the Reverend Copley who shared the meaning of Easter with the children. They were thoroughly engaged in his Easter message and loved the story about how Easter eggs should be empty just like the tomb that Jesus was placed in. All of the children listened eagerly as the message of Easter was shared in an engaging and practical way.
Year 5 have been really engaged in learning their new song ‘Hey Mr Miller’. They have been learning it and splitting into 4 parts to sing the song in canon! We were really impressed with their efforts!Some excellent air trombones and saxophones came out in their singing also.
The children were extremely focused in the lesson whilst practising different styles and designs that they could shape their bread in. All the children enjoyed watching and partaking in the initial creation of the bread and were awed by the amount that the bread rose through to the yeast! Most children wanted to bake the bread in the oven however they saw how in some cultures bread could be fried and even boiled! All the children enjoyed taking home their delicious tasty bread trials. These skills are building in preparation for their actual making next week.
Year 5 have really enjoyed today’s lesson where they have been investigating different styles of bread. They have detailed how it smells, what it’s appearance is like along with the taste. Lots of children really enjoyed the baguette but hated the gluten free bread. These discoveries will really help them in their design process.
