‘Hubble Bubble Boil and Trouble!’

It’s been potions galore this morning in F2!

We have been putting those fine motor skills into action, alongside our imaginations, to concoct and create the most magical of potions! Mixing, stirring, pouring, peeling, squeezing and sieving! We used some sweet smelling oranges, lavender, spices and pumpkins to bottle up our creations. We then followed this activity up by writing our ingredients list and describing what our potions could do! Turn you into a Unicorn, jump like a frog… and even disappear!

A lovely morning well spent in the great outdoors…

F2 balancing fun!

This afternoon during our P.E time, the children decided to make some superb assault  courses and practice going over, under and balancing! A great opportunity for putting into practice our positional language! The children worked together as a team to create their own course and helped each other along the way!

The children also loved using the balancing boards from our P.E trolley, coits, bats, hoop and net!

Team work makes the dream work…

Crime Investigation!

There has been a crime!

Someone has been into our classroom this morning and made such a mess! We arrived at school to find porridge everywhere and a BROKEN CHAIR! We had to put on our investigation caps and get to the bottom of who had made the mess!

After lots of discussions and partner talk we decided that it must be GOLIDLOCKS! This made lots of sense seeing as though we have been reading the story “Goldilocks and the Three Bears!”.

We decided to create WANTED posters to find the culprit! We searched high and low to see if we could spot her and set traps outside to find her! We loved trying on our golden wigs to see if it was anyone we knew!

Lots of us enjoyed making our own perfect porridge recipe, that tasted “just right!”

Special Visitor!

F2 had a special visitor today!

PC Jackson, a local police officer came into school to talk to our little children about ‘People who help us’ and the jobs that police officers do in our local area to look after us. We spoke about the uniform of a police officer and the jobs they do to keep us safe! We had so many questions for PC Jackson and shared some of our amazing ideas! We got to try on some very special police uniform and talked about the importance of a uniform in identifying people, we even spoke about our uniform and how we can identify ourselves with the special Christopher Pickering logo.

PC Jackson talked us through her job as a police officer and what to do if we ever needed help. It was a great opportunity for the children to connect this to Hull Fair, as so many of us have spotted lots of Police Officers at the fair this week. We know now that if we ever get lost or scared at big places like the fair, we can always ask for help!

We loved showing PC Jackson our classroom and chatting all morning with her! We even drew some fabulous pictures for her to take away back to the station!

All the fun of the fair!

What a fabulous day F2 had celebrating ‘Hull Fair Day‘! A yearly event in our city’s calendar and one deserving of celebration! Hull has celebrated the arrival of the fair for over 7 centuries!! And to this day our children still love the fun of the fair! We cannot not mark the special occasion! So we traded our usual activities in for some roasting chestnuts, fairground rides, huck a duck games and coconut shy! We got busy painting our favourite fairground rides, pretended to ride the biggest rollercoasters, spent pennies on the funhouse and even tried some infamous BRANDY SNAP!!! The children loved discussing the fair and talked about the things they could see, smell, hear, touch and taste whilst they were there! The experience opened up lots of opportunities for discussions and chats about our senses, what we love and how we also try and stay safe at busy places like the fair!

The children had so much fun and we cannot wait to carry on this topic for the rest of the week!

Library afternoon!

A few snaps of our very relaxing and chilled afternoon in the library! The children loved sitting together and sharing new and favourite books!

We discussed about what the purpose of a library was, what we should do in there and some very important golden rules! We talked about taking great care of our books and holding them properly, turning the pages carefully and putting them back. The children really loved the time spent in there and we finished our calm session off with a whole class story together!

Autumn Walk!

This afternoon F2 went on an exciting adventure around school looking for signs and bursts of AUTUMN! We looked for autumnal colours and the changes starting to take place all around us! We had lots of discussions and conversations about the trees and the plants we could see, and how we could tell that the weather was starting to change! We spotted berries (which we chatted about we can’t always eat!) and signs of insects starting to hide and hibernate for the winter!

We can’t wait to use the different leaves we collected to create our very own leaf men!!!

The Giant’s Teeth!

Following our surprise package last week the children were very excited to continue this learning and hunt for signs of the missing giant!!!

We used our binoculars and cameras to try get a quick snap of the giant! And we created some amazing giant posters to display around the classroom! The children loved creating their very own life sized giant, adding descriptions to it and thought of so many adjectives to describe him/her!

We also talked about different types of teeth and how we can take care of them, remembering to brush at least twice a day!

We have been looking after the giants teeth with great care…just incase they come back for them!

Foundation Stage Hub

Jam Sandwiches

Today all the children joined in to make our special jam sandwiches. They enjoyed spreading the butter on the bread.

They then added lots of delicious strawberry flavored jam.

The best bit was at the very end when all the children could taste them.

Lola enjoyed eating her sandwich .She folded it in half then had a huge bite.

Next week we will be making lots of other new exciting things.

SPECIAL DELIVERY!

WOW! This Monday morning we received a very special delivery… A SUPRISE PACKAGE!!! We were all so excited to explore the package and couldn’t wait to peak inside!

Before we did we guessed at what could be inside and had some wonderfully imaginative ideas! After lots of fabulous paired talk and discussions about the sizing of the package, we carefully opened up the box to find….

A SET OF TEETH?!!!!!

This opened up lots of different questions! Whose teeth where they? How had they arrived here? How could we give them back? How could we look after them?

This led to further discussions about looking after teeth and ways we could try and track down the missing tooth GIANT?! *Given the size of the teeth the children assumed instantly that of course they must belong to a giant*

Tomorrow the children have decided to carry on the investigation further and draw a missing person poster to find whoever they belong to… watch this space…!!!
