F1 Explore Bonfire Night

After a good chat about Bonfire Night and how and why we celebrate it, lots of us went outside to play.

We built a huge bonfire out of sticks and then used ‘fire’ coloured paper to set it alight.

We also sat around our fire and toasted marshmallows, which was Richard’s idea.  We loved it!

We then created fantastic, colourful fireworks using chalks and then by using all of our colourful PE equipment too!

F1’s Hull Fair Day

F1 had a fantastic Hull Fair Day today.  The children that went to the fair last week had so much to tell us about; what they saw, what they ate and the rides they went on.  It sounded so much fun.  Remi told us, “I go to Hull Fair with my Nana.  I went (on) a wheel!”  We tried to recreate some of the elements from the fair, which the children loved.

We started off by trying Brandy Snap.  It was very crunchy and very sugary and most of us liked it very much!

Outside we had set up Hook a Duck.  Phoebe told us that she went on Hook a Duck at the fair told us, “I ‘catched’ a little one and I ‘winned’ a bow and arrow!!”

We also made some ramps for our cars to whizz down, like they were travelling on a rollercoaster.  Some times they travelled really fast and zoomed right off the end!

We played a game where you had to knock cans down by throwing a bean bag at them.  The children were all keen to have a go and had to think about taking turns.  They also worked hard to count how many cans they had knocked down.

Gracie told us all about going on the Ghost Train.  “It was just like monsters on each door and you went through.”  Amelia  said that she didn’t go on it though, “coz it’s too scary”.  Archie also knew that there were, “scary ghosts”.  So we built our own train and the children took in turns to be ghosts and monsters and make scary sounds.

It really was a happy day, filled with chatter and fun.  Well done everyone!

Porridge Tasting

We are currently reading Goldilocks and The Three Bears so what better thing to start off our cooking with than porridge.  As part of our ‘I Wonder Wednesday’ the children were given clues as to what we might be doing.  We all had a good think!

No one knew what the oats were, although Phoebe and Amelia thought they might be seeds.

Gracie guessed that the three, different sized spoons belonged to the 3 Bears.

Some of the children helped to measure out the oats, milk and water, then we decided to put it in the microwave to cook.  It changed from being very runny to thick and ‘sticky’.

EVERYONE had a try, which was fabulous!  Well done F1.

Happy Mark-Makers!

Some of our F1 children started the day with a really good mark-making session.  Well done for sharing the pens and paper too!

F1 Stay & Play

Thank you so much to all the parents and grandparents that were able to join us for our Stay and Play session today in F1.  It was a great success and everyone seemed to have a happy time together exploring all that F1 has to offer.  For those who couldn’t make it, fingers crossed for next time!

Great Maths in F1 today

Some of our children created a long paper snake out of strips of paper they had cut.  It was decided that it was the longest paper snake they had EVER seen.

There was lots of measuring that went on, with super maths language.  It was even longer than Mrs Silverwood when she laid on the floor.  It turned out it was the same length as Reuben, Alfie and Poppy all laid in a long line.

Patterning in F1

We have been looking at jungle animals and thinking about the patterns of zebras.

Look how well we did…

F1 colour mixing

We’ve had great fun exploring what happens when you mix blue and yellow together.

Reuben and Isabel knew that it would make green!

We have been painting jungle leaves and making marks on them with mint-stems.
