We have loved reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar and have been mesmerised by our caterpillars in the classroom and have really enjoyed watching them grow and change.
It seemed only right to create our very own beautiful butterflies.

Today we watched our first four butterflies fly away. It’s been quite magical watching them 🐛🦋
Week 3 of Art Club and our first piece is finished. The children have had to really focus but the results look great!

Our afternoon children have tried Gruffalo Crumble today! It was Jacob’s idea!

Our new story is The Very Hungry Caterpillar. To help us learn all about caterpillars and how then transform into butterflies we have got some REAL baby caterpillars so that we can watch them grow and change.
The children have been intrigued by them already!

Jax said, “They’re crawling, they can actually crawl on their own, that one just crawled up!”

Blake said, “I can see that one climbing.” Nevaeh added, “It’s on the wall.”
Finnley said, “They’re eating, eating the food.” He was right.
Freddie told us, “They’re ‘gonna’ get big!”

We can’t wait to watch them grow and change.
Whilst we have been reading We’re Going on a Bear Hunt, we have explored all of the environments that the family discover on their walk. We thought mud was brilliant but not half as exciting as creating our very own swirling, whirling snowstorm!
To start with, we watched how snow calmly and gently falls from the sky. Then we watched a storm and talked about why the snow was moving around in different directions. Jacob was able to tell us that it was because the wind was blowing it.
Yesterday the children had practised their cutting skills and snipped up lots of tiny pieces of white paper. Blake gave it a blow but it just wasn’t enough. What could we do?

We needed something that we could ‘waft’ to create lots of ‘wind’ so we decided to use our clipboards. The results were amazing!
Watch the videos below to see how we retold some of the story, with some of us trying hard to use British Sign Language at the same time, and then creating our amazing swirling, whirling snowstorm.
A great day in F1!
Today we explored our new balance scales, thinking carefully about how the scales moved, ‘heavier’, ‘lighter’, ‘the same’ and what it meant when they were balanced.

We then talked briefly about the origins of Pancake Day and looked at different types of pancakes across the world; from Russian blinis to the Irish boxty. All of them were circular shapes. Fancy that!
The children told us all about the pancakes they had eaten over the holidays.
Autumn used some super sentences. She told us, “I had strawberry pancakes.” “I had pancakes at home and at Nana’s.”
Oliver said, “I had jam on the other one and nutella on the other one,” as he counted on his fingers, showing us two.
We looked at the recipe book and measured out the ingredients using our new scales then poured it into the mixing bowl.

Blake added a pinch of salt then Jax started to mix everything together. “It’s mixed in the flour,” he told us.
Myla knew that they needed cooking ‘in a pan’. So Mrs Silverwood got cooking.

Nearly everyone thought they were tasty.
“They’re delicious,” said Jacob.
“Really nice, me eat it all,” said Blake.
“Nice,” said Arlo B.
“I just like them,” said Jax.
“I want another one,” said Arlo R.
“I like it really good,” said Nevaeh.

We have been thinking about houses in F1 recently. Today we went out to hunt for different styles of homes that we can see from our grounds. The children had a great time spotting them and trying hard to use the new words we had discussed before we went outside, such as bungalow, detached and terraced.
Here are a few photographs of us busy at work…

When we got back into school, some of the children used what they’d learnt to build their own homes too!

We baked the most delicious ginger biscuits today.

Florence enjoyed baking so much, this afternoon she made her own in the role play room!
