During our Autumn term Topic, year 3 loved learning about World War II. We began our WOW day by listening to an air raid siren and explaining that this noise meant that everyone had to get to safety. The children were told that they needed to prepare to be evacuated, throughout the day we explored what it would have been like for the children of WWII. We thought about the different belongings children in the war time would have taken with them and how they would have felt. Later in the day we looked at some photographers of Coventry Cathedral after it had been bombed and of Winston Churchill visiting the cathedral. We then recreated these images using oil and chalk pastels. Finally, we explored the types of food children would have eaten during the war time, we even made our own beef pate sandwiches!
For our WOW day we came to school in WWII fancy dress, we had evacuees, land girls, solider and war officers. Here is a picture of us all looking super!
