How does our school compare to Beatrix Potter’s home?

This week in geography we looked at a variety of different maps. We looked at a map of the United Kingdom and re-capped the four countries and their capital cities. We also looked at street maps, transport maps and a holiday park map. We discussed how maps had keys to help people identify where different things can be located.

We then looked at a map of Beatrix Potter’s world in the Lake District. On this map are a variety of different characters from the stories. We gave our partners oral instructions to find the different characters using locational and positional language.

Maisie using positional language.

Stanley using positional language.

To extend out learning we identified the different human and physical features found on the map.

We are excited to create our own map of our school next week.
