A BIG thanks to the local HU4 Community Network Team for donating a variety of beautiful flowers and herbs to our Foundation Stage flower beds! We had the best afternoon weeding and preparing our planters! We loved using our gardening tools and trowels, and getting our hands all dirty with compost and soil! We planted a selection of beautiful flowers, our favourites were definitely the Sunflowers! And we explored the different smells from the herbs (Thyme) and Lavender! We talked about some of the purposes of these flowers and herbs and what they needed to grow. We also carefully planted some strawberry plants, ready to be picked in the next few weeks! We can’t wait to watch our planters begin to fully bloom in the upcoming weeks…

Observation over time

In science this week Year 1 have started our observation of a seeds grow into a plant.

We are all very excited to observe each stage of growth.

We talked about what a plant needs to be healthy and chose a place in the classroom to put our plants that had those things.

Plants need the correct temperature, light and water to grow into a healthy plant. We placed our plants near the window and decided we needed to make sure they are watered regularly.

We have placed the seeds at the side of a see through plastic cup so we can observe every stage.

Our observations so far can see a seed ready to grow. We can’t wait to see if it starts to germinate and develop shoots next week!

Year 2 Science

Year 2 have started a new unit in Science. They are now learning about habitats. They learned what a habitat is and looked at some different habitats. Then they sorted animals into different habitats including; oceans, African plains, beaches and the Arctic.
