Fantastic discussions during PSHE in Year 2!

This week, Year 2 have been discussing secrets.

We talked about which secrets we should keep and which secrets we shouldn’t keep.

We shared our ideas with our friends.

We thought of lots of secrets that we were happy to keep, such as birthday surprises and parties.

Then, we talked about secrets we shouldn’t keep. Year 2 thought they should tell an adult if they knew a secret about somebody being unkind or mean.

Finally, we drew some pictures to represent our ideas and completed to some sentences.

F2 Forest School 🌼 🍃🌿🍃🌼

The children had a wonderful time today, helping to develop our forest area.

First we used two pallets to make a bed…a stage…a sofa…maybe even a magic carpet…

…then we use logs, stumps and planks to make an assault course.

We tested and checked to make sure it was steady and safe… then we carefully balanced around, slow and steady…

…after that, we explored our campfire area and using our fabulous imagination we toasted marshmallows and sang songs.

We were careful not to go too close, staying on the edge of our safety circle. It was good to investigate the patterns on the bricks we used to surround our fire pit…

…and finally, we looked for bugs, planted a tree and worked together at tidy away time.

We love our forest area!

Year 5 Jigsaw – Online Gaming

This week in PSHE, Year 5 looked at online gaming and the risks involved with playing games online. We came up with a list of positives and a list of negatives to online gaming. In groups, we were then given a made up online game which he had to create some rules for in order to make the game safer.

Year 5 Jigsaw – Online Communities

Today, in Jigsaw, Year 5 talked about social media sights and online communities and why people decide to join them. We then looked at some fake online communities and talked about which ones we would like to join and why. Some children said they would like to join a site called #Lolfunnyvids because they like to watch and post funny videos online and some children said they would like to join #Photoswapzzz because they like to chat with their friends by sending photos. The children were then given one of the fake social media sites and worked in groups to answer the following questions: Who would join this site? Why would people choose to join this site? What are the risks of joining this online community? and What responsibilities do members of this site have to make sure it is a safe and happy place?

How our families are different!

In class this week we have been discussing how families are all different.

We looked at pictures of some families with a mum and dad. Some families with 2 mums or 2 dads. We looked at families with 1 parent and how some families are grand parents or aunts and uncles. We found out there are lots of ways a family can live together.

We got to talk about our own families and who we live with.

It was great to find out not all of our families are the same!

Today, in Jigsaw, Year 5 were looking at online safety and the age limits that some apps and online games have.

We started our lesson by completing a quiz about the age limits that different activities (such as driving a car, buying alcohol, getting married, being criminally responsible for your actions and owning a phone) have.

Next, we discussed the potential risks that we could face when going online.

Finally, we discussed the age limits that different apps have. We talked about the pros and cons for apps having age limits and why we think age limits are been put in place.

Y4 Help combat loneliness!

As part of the EFL’s Day of Action, some year 4 children took part in a virtual meeting with the residents of an elderly care-home. They have a great time chatting about each other’s childhoods!

Comic Relief 2021

In Y1, we had a great day celebrating Comic Relief in Y1! We all came as superheroes and people who are heroes to us! We had lots of Supergirls, Supermen, Bat men and Batgirls.

We learned about the importance of Comic Relief and all of the good things it does to help people living incredibly tough lives.

A happy Forest School day 🍃🌿🍃

It’s wonderful having all of our children back at school and carrying on with our Forest School.

First activity… mud painting!

After donning our wetsuits and wellies, we set about collecting twigs, herbs and mud.

The herb we collected was rosemary, we gave it a good sniff… it smelt delightful.

We then attached it to a twig to make our brush… it was a little tricky for some of us, but we helped each other.

We were so proud of the brushes we had made.

Then we scooped, stirred and mixed our mud with bubbly water (which also smelt fabulous!) and added magic coloured powder to make our amazing mud paint.

We painted with the mud, it was different to our usual paint but we liked the patterns we could make with it.

Our fabulous creations!
