After having the football rained off last week, our sporting season finally got underway this year starting with the Hull Active Schools Boy’s Tag Rugby League qualifying event at Sirius Academy West.

Eleven schools were in attendance and we were placed in a group with Stepney, Escourt and Francis Askew.We had a good start with a win 2-1 win over Francis Askew which was followed by a loss to Stepney, who scored in the final seconds. Our third group game was much better with the boys coming through comfortably. Going through as the group winners, we played Wold in the semi final. Some excellent work from hooker Jake F saw the ball being passed out wide on a number of occasions, giving the evasive Last twins move to score some excellent tries and send the boys through to the final.

The final game was against a very strong Eastfield. This was an excellent final game played in good spirit as the vast majority of boys from both teams knew and played with each other on their respective West Hull teams outside of school. Eastfield were he deserved winners, finding gaps in our defence through excellent ball handling skills.

Both teams now go through to the Hull Active Schools Grand Final in a few weeks. Well done boys!
