Year 6 Jigsaw

In Jigsaw today, year 6 looked at being global citizens and were able to compare their lives to lives of children from Ghana. Many of the children were shocked at how the Ghana children would have to work on their families plantations after school and that lots of them would not go to secondary school at all because they needed income to survive. The children thought about how unfair it was that even though these families grow the cocoa bean they don’t see much profit.

We also looked at the author Malorie Blackman and how she overcame racism and prejudice in her life to become the famous and celebrated author that she is today. Using her life story the children were able to identify small achievable goals and we discussed fears about the year ahead and how we could overcome these fears.
