HULL FAIR DAY!

What an exciting day we’ve had in EYFS celebrating Hull Fair Day! The children had a wonderful time exploring all the sights, sounds, smells, and tastes of the fair, all from our classroom and outdoor area.

We began the day by talking about our five senses and how we use them when visiting the fair. We discussed what we might see, hear, taste, smell, and touch on our visit — from bright lights and cheerful music to the delicious smell of fairground treats!

To start the fun, we enjoyed a special taste test of Hull Fair favourites — brandy snap and candy floss! The children had lots of fun describing the textures and flavours, using brilliant words like “crunchy,” “sweet,” and “sticky!”

Next, we got creative and painted our own colourful candy floss pictures, using pinks and pastels to recreate the yummy fairground treat. Outside, the excitement continued with classic fair games like Tin Can Alley and bowling pin knockdown, where the children practised their throwing and aiming skills while cheering each other on.

One of the highlights of the day was when the children made their very own chocolate-dipped apples just like the ones sold at the fair! They carefully dipped their apples into melted chocolate and added a few sprinkles on top. It was a wonderful opportunity to explore textures, smells, and tastes while talking about how the chocolate changed as it melted and cooled. The best part, of course, was getting to taste their delicious creations!

We even pretended to be on a roller coaster, using our imaginations (and a few dramatic sound effects!) to feel what it might be like zooming around the track, there were lots of giggles and “woah!” faces!

In the water tray, the children played Hook a Duck, showing brilliant turn-taking and teamwork. Inside, we set up a fairground sweet shop, where the children took turns being shopkeepers and customers, making sweetie bags and practising their money skills.

It truly was a fantastic day filled with laughter, learning, and lots of Hull Fair magic.
