Operation Encompass
Operation Encompass is a partnership between the police and schools that enables early sharing of information to support children and young people experiencing domestic abuse. When officers attend a domestic abuse incident, they share relevant information with the school’s trained Key Adult (Designated Safeguarding Lead) before the start of the next school day. This allows us to provide timely and appropriate support based on the child’s needs and wishes.
Children exposed to domestic abuse can experience significant emotional, physical, and psychological harm. Domestic abuse is recognised as an Adverse Childhood Experience (ACE), which can have long-term effects. Operation Encompass aims to reduce this harm by ensuring immediate support—helping to make a child’s day better and their future brighter.
Operation Encompass recognises that children are victims of domestic abuse in their own right and should always be acknowledged as such.
