Maps to find people who help us.

In FS2 we have been learning about people who help us in school. We wanted to know where we could find these people in school, so we made a simple map to help us find them.

Grace told us her mum uses maps when she is driving and Charlie told us you can use a map to help you find your way to things.

First we looked at the school on Google Earth.

We talked about the things which are near school that we could see on the satellite picture, we also switched to the map to see what it looked like when we used a real map.

We then had a go at marking on, a simple map of the school, where the people who help us can be found. We marked on Mrs Marson’s office, the main school office, the site team office and the Kitchen. We also marked on where our classroom is.

Some children then went exploring with our map, to check we had made it correctly. They took the map around the school and found all of the places we had marked. They then reported back to the rest of the children in the classroom, how they used the map to help them find their way around school.

After our lesson about the maps, some children decided to draw their own map of the school too.
